Sundays are for the family!

Afghans love to get together with family and friends.  When we get together it's not just any family get together, we put on the music, get a family member to sing and of course there's food.  One or two dishes won't do, each person that comes in usually brings a dish which can end up taking the whole eight foot long dining table, making it look like a buffett.  One would think this is the occasional celebration or birthday party, but this is my family's sunday night dinner.  Our sunday night family dinners have gotten kind of light because my sister and two of my brothers have moved out of state, but there are still three of my siblings here and our wives and fiances and all the kids.  We don't bring things like burgers or potato salad, instead its all traditional faire like chapli kabob, qorma, chalow, and my very favorite ashak which is a little like a fried potsticker.  Our sundays are special because no matter what is going on the rest of the week, when it's 5pm on sunday, we are all at my parent's house.  I think this will be a tradition that will carry on for a long time, at least I hope it does.
